In this video from The Art of Photography, Ted Forbes looks at the work of Irving Penn. A commercial and fine art photographer, Penn is recognized as being one of the most important editorial photographers of the 20th century. During his career, he worked for companies as diverse as Vogue, Jell-o Pudding and Clinique. His portrait work is amazing.

"Sensitive people faced with the prospect of a camera portrait put on a face they think is one they would like to show the world... very often what lies behind the facade is rare and more wonderful than the subject knows or dares to believe." —Irving Penn, 1975
