The Wedding of Bill & Jess | Our Lady of Loreto Church | Aurora, CO
I love weddings… creating the look the bride has always dreamed of and seeing her face as she sees her reflection in the mirror. It becomes downright magical when one of my cherished friends is saying "I do" to someone she's been in love with since she was very young.
Jess and I have been Irish dance buddies for years – rocking sweats in the studio and sequins on stage. I am so grateful for what she brings to my life.
I was honored that she asked me to do her wedding day makeup and so excited to be able to share the day with her. She is a natural beauty and to highlight her amazing eyes, I used luminous neutrals from Sephora and Ardell's Demi Wispies (every bride's dream lashes).
After her look was complete, I put down my brushes, picked up my camera, and went into wedding photographer mode. The unique blend of being both makeup artist and photographer allows me to capture special moments like her bridesmaids’ reactions as her look was revealed. I love that part!
As her father walked her down the aisle of Our Lady of Loreto, she was as radiant as the illuminated Christmas trees that adorned the church. When the "kiss the bride” moment arrived, my heart and eyes welled up – my camera thankfully on auto-focus. One of
my favorite moments was seeing Bill in his dress whites and Jess in her beautiful gown during the sword ceremony, an expression of pride and joy as they began their lives together as husband and wife.
After all equipment was packed up and we were ready to head over to the reception, we exited the church and were greeted by a magnificent sunset t
hat cast blue light on the snow-covered ground. My dad hurriedly unpacked a camera and captured the bride and groom in some of the the most beautiful images I may have ever seen (my daddy bias aside, the images are stunning).
The reception at Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club certainly kept all three of us busy! It was an Irish dance reunion of sorts for us getting to see former dancers and their families; so many people came out to show their support and love for both the bride and groom. An impromptu Irish dance performance was a highlight (one I got to perform in as my camera took a much needed rest!). The bride’s dance with her father as they laughed and talked, the groom and his mother tearing up the dance floor, toasts from their attendants which included embarrassing journal readings…these are just a few of the memorable moments from this very special celebration.
We are so grateful to have been a part of their special day and wish only great things for Jess and Bill. Enjoy your international adventures, Mr. and Mrs. Leigh!
May the road rise up to meet you… and may they, bride and groom, together with heaven and earth, with the sun and the moon, continue to give out light and radiance. - An Irish and Japanese blessing xo
