The 2012 Sony NEX‑5R: Taylor Swift’s Camera, Still MineEvery now and then, an old commercial resurfaces in my YouTube feed — like this Sony spot where a very young Taylor Swift was the face of the NEX‑5R. It’s amazing how long ago it feels now. She was still in her early‑career, country‑leaning phase, and mirrorless cameras were still the new kids on the block. Yet there she was, selling a camera that, strangely enough, I still own. Along with the Taylor Swift promotional video, I've included a camera review from just two years ago by Kraig Pruett. His says that the NEX 5R is his favorite model from the Sony NEX series and is a "great balance of image quality, features, ergonomics, and is just a fun shooter". Now 12 years later, with full‑frame options and computational wizardry all around, the NEX‑5R still earns its place in my bag. Not out of nostalgia, but because it continues to do exactly what I need: capture moments cleanly, quietly, and without getting in the way. Some tools age. Others settle in.
