The Basics of Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is the amount of time that a camera's shutter is open. It determines how long your camera's sensor (or film in the old days) is exposed to the light coming through the camera lens. It is one of the three things that determines the exposure of your photograph - the other two being aperture and ISO.
